The Swonger Family
Story
On February 17 our little boy Ashton River was born after 21 hours of labor resulting in an emergency c-section. A little after birth he was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension which landed him in the nicu with a cpap and nitrous oxide. He has since been removed from those but still requires oxygen via nasal cannula and is expected to need it for a while yet. Soon after all of that his genetics testing can back as trisomy 21, or down syndrome. While we absolutely love our little man and everything he brings to our family, he does present some challenges as he does not learn things as quickly which is to be expected. He is now trying to feed orally as he had a feeding tube place while on the cpap. From what we have understood from the neonatal team, they are expecting him to have at least another week in the nicu. I work full time but am off to help mom recover from the c-section and help take care of Ashton. We have it set up so mom can take care of our little guy full time so we can ensure he is well taken care of. We are hoping to return home as soon as we possibly can with him so we can resume our normal duties. However, with already being in Rochester for 12 days and him having to be here a while longer we are falling behind with our financial duties. As much as we don’t want to do this we don’t know how else to make it without asking for help. We are looking for enough to help us pay our rent and keep things running so we can recover as a family and still have a place to come back to after. Our monthly rent payment is 995 and our electric bill ranges from 80-130 depending on the month.
As of 2/27 the mother of Ashton, Morgan, is experiencing complications from her emergency c-section and might have to have another surgery to resolve the issues. If she needs another surgery her recovery time will reset and she will be needing assistance for another 6-8 weeks after the surgery to recover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
