Story
Meet Hudson "Sonny" Rue --
Sonny was born at 28 weeks, 5 days but his story starts about 13 weeks before that. At about 15 weeks, Mama developed a large subchorionic hemorrhage that persisted throughout the pregnancy, prompting 2 emergency room visits and an eventual extended hospital stay. This complication required almost weekly ultrasounds and limited activity to monitor the bleed and try and keep it contained. To further complicate things, an ultrasound also discovered Sonny had a uni-lateral club food and a velamentous cord insertion.
At 25 weeks and 3 days, an ultrasound discovered that the hemorrhage caused Mama's water to start leaking and was dangerously low. This prompted immediate hospital admittance where Mama and Dada stayed for 23 days for continual monitoring of baby to ensure no infection or other complications set in. It was a tough adjustment, especially with big brother Henry (21 months) at home, but they embraced their "new normal."
It was on the 24th day in the hospital, in the early morning hours, that Hudson decided he was ready for the world. He came fast and furious, giving Mama about a 10 min warning. The extremely fast labor and birth meant there was no time for mom or the nursing staff to prepare. Mama delivered Hudson on her own while Dada was running to get the nursing team to help. Mama and Dada are just so thankful for the fast-acting hospital staff that rushed to the room to administer immediate help to Sonny and Mama. The velamentous cord also led to a further DNC surgery post-birth for Mama as the placenta would not pass on it's own.
Sonny has a long NICU journey ahead of him due to his young birth age and low weight, but he is a fighter! Big brother Henry is eagerly waiting to meet him but because of his young age, he cannot visit the NICU. The long hospital stay pre-birth and now long NICU stay has been tough on the family but the support of family and friends has been so well needed!
Sonny is already a feisty little guy! He loves kicking his legs and snuggling with Mom. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and get to meet Sonny.
