Our Story
Hello! My name is Rory, and I'm a trans man living in the wonderful city of Minneapolis.
I find it a bit difficult to share my story, but it feels important. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been on a journey of overcoming addiction. Now, at 50 years old, I can proudly say that I've been sober for seven years. A huge part of my transformation began when I met my little buddy in the picture — he’s brought so much joy into my life. I’m incredibly grateful for the amazing people around me who have supported and guided me on this path to a new life.
However, my journey took an unexpected turn about a year ago when I was involved in a car accident. This event has significantly impacted my life, and while I have had so many wonderful people invest their trust in me, the circumstances have made things challenging.
For the last seven years, I have been living in properties managed by the same company, and three years ago I was fortunate enough to take on caretaking and maintenance responsibilities, which I genuinely enjoyed and felt proud of. Unfortunately, due to the accident, I can no longer fulfill those duties, and although my property manager is incredibly supportive and wants to help me succeed, there’s only so much that can be done.
I truly don’t want to look for a new place to live. What I need right now is a bit of support to help me get back on my feet for a couple of months. I know firsthand how tough it can be to ask for help while in recovery, and any resources or assistance would be tremendously appreciated. While I do receive some support from disability and have a caddie waiver, it unfortunately doesn’t cover my rent.
Tomorrow morning, on the 18th, I will be undergoing my seventh surgery, which involves a cadaver bone fusion. I am hopeful that this will help prevent the need for amputation, but as anyone who knows me can attest, I am determined to keep moving forward, even if it means using crutches. Whether it’s cleaning, detailing a car, or anything else I can manage, I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep progressing.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your kindness and consideration mean the world to me!
