The Pailen Family
Our Story
On Tuesday 12/03,Jonas and his wife went to the ER for leg pain (Edema). Her legs were tight and shedding, and his legs had tighten up to his calf's and thighs. He described them as feeling like heavy rocks and could barley walk. They went to ER were they was registered, they received basic blood work, which included a complete blood count (CBC).
His wife received a blood transfusion and was later discharged to be with her husband,Jonas.
Jonas, white blood count was elevated at nearly 400,000, low RBC, low Hemoglobin & Hematocrit (Anemic), high platelets (636) and his urine was dark and foamy. The ER doctor immediately called the Oncologist, who told him that he had Leukemia and he would be admitted.
The Oncologist came to deliver the news that he had Leukemia, but he wasn't sure which one until a bone marrow biopsy was done . He was then admitted to inpatient care but remained in the ER because they had no beds.
The Oncologist and his team came back at 11am to perform a bone marrow biopsy under general anesthesia. Jonas could still feel the needle and had to get numb several times. After the procedure, Jonas lost consciousness. His wife kept calling his name and talking to him until he came back around . The team panic as his eyes were wide open and nails had turned blue.
After a few days, he finally received a bed but still needed to be transferred to a cancer treatment facility. His wife requested that the hospital start Hydroxyurea (Hydrea) to lower his white blood count, while waiting on a bed. The doctor agreed and approved the order.
He was transferred a day later via ambulance to begin treatment. The treatment center continued the Hydrea, as his levels were critical and he could have a stroke or heart attack. A few days later an additional chemo pill was added by request from his wife to lower his BCR.
While in the hospital, Jonas has had 2 CT Scans, Ultrasound, EKG, OT, PT, Echocardiogram, and daily labs sometimes multiple times per day. Just days before Christmas, he was He still hospitalized,as they work to get his numbers back to normal range.
On Wednesday,12/18/24, His WBC were 111k. His family is truly excited for his new beginning. Most days, He's in good spirits but often thinks why and how he was diagnosed with a blood cancer (CML), just one year after losing his father, who was battling prostate cancer that spread to his lymph nodes. However, He is grateful that one simple blood test brought awareness and extended his life
His Oncologist will continue to see him twice per week until his numbers are in normal range then once a week until May, once he is discharged from the hospital. Due to his new condition, he will remain out of work.
On behalf of this family, they would like to thank you in advance for your healing prayers, words of encouragement and seeds sown. For whatever we sow, we shall also reap. We pray that your seed is multiplied back to you.
