On January 26th, 2024, Barb went to the Urgency Room for abdominal pain. With previous history of these symptoms, she assumed it would be a similar diagnosis as before. After a CT scan to check things out, the doctor told her that their suspicions were not correct, but instead that she had multiple abdominal masses that were causing her pain, and that it was believed that they were cancerous.

After innumerable follow-up appointments, biopsies, and scans, Barb was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Primary Peritoneal Carcinomatosis.

Barb has been through so much since then. She has an amazing medical team that has not only instilled some hope and positivity in all of us, but that have also come up with a comprehensive plan including chemotherapy and surgery.

Barb had her first chemotherapy treatment in February 2024. She then had  surgery to remove all visible/accessible cancer. This surgery happened on May 15th. After this, she had three more chemotherapy sessions.  Her numbers continued to drop as she responded very well to the chemo.  After her final chemo, she was placed on a chemo maintenance pill.  It has been going pretty well.  However, she is having more symptoms and is scheduled for another scan on March 11th to reevaluate her condition and plan.

Anyone who knows Barb knows that she is selfless, a fighter, and loves deeply. She is in this for the long haul and knows it will be a tough road ahead. However, as she always says, she is willing to do anything to spend as much time with her family and friends as possible.

Our hope with this site is to keep everyone updated on her journey through this battle.
