The Meredith Family
Story
My fiance in January 2020 began having severe pregnancy complications such as blood clots in the Uterus, partial paralysis in an arm and leg due to the blood clots and constant infections she was getting. When the doctors finally believed they had got her stable and free of any complications for the time it was the end of January. She had spend the whole month in and out of the hospital every week staying 2-3 days at a time. She was told due to the nature of her and the babies complications she did have a significantly elevated risk of the baby not making it to term alive, and/or her or both of them not surviving the birth of she has any rupture or bleeding inside her Uterus. So because of that they wanted someone to stay home with her for at least two weeks to ensure everything was going smoothly and in case anything unexpected happend. Despite me having 84 hours of vacation available to me they refused to let me use any of it. I contacted her doctors and our other two children's doctor (a 4yo. Boy and a 2yo. Boy) and they both told me to inquire about FMLA and tell them you want to apply for the time off with FMLA. However, at that point my job proceeded to tell me they did not have to give me time off because me and her are not legally married and bound to each other and that I was not being permitted vacation time or personal time either and if I did not come in I would be terminated. So, I put my family first. I filed for unemployment but it took 10 weeks to even get a representative to contact me regarding my case because my previous job contested my unemployment stating I broke a policy of attendance for not coming to work the same day I told them I'm putting my family first and I will not be there tomorrow. But, they were allowed to report a violation of attendance when I had not even missed yet. So because of their quick reporting I had to wait for a rep. To approve or deny my account, which like I said took 10 weeks. During this time my fiance ended up having bleeding and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance twice and the second time they told her they didn't care if she was up there 2 days or 2 weeks but she was not leaving that hospital with the baby in her tummy again. So for weeks she was up there while I had to stay home and could not work or anything due to having our other two kids and being the only one taking care of them and the household and finances. When she was exactly to the day 8 weeks from her due date they came and checked her and told her the baby was trying to come early and they had to get ready for him so they induced her and 8 hours later he was born. He was born with some minor health issues and ended up being in the NICU for a month and a half before he could come home. He also has issues with the way his groin and other areas crew and was scheduled by the hospital to have surgery to fix it all and a few months after he came home. Well, a few weeks after ha came home I stopped receiving my PUA unemployment benefits and have yet to hear from anyone and everytime I have called I keep getting told to "just wait an DWD Investigator is the only one that can clear it up and they are working as hard as possible" I have yet to receive any payment in a month and a half and my fiance even picked up a part time job working all night baking cookies to help pay the bills. Then, a few weeks ago we recieved Two letters. One stating that our sons surgery would be at a certain time and date and the another of his insurance stating that a document at the hospital was not correctly completed and submitted when he was born and therefore he has no health insurance. So we had to reschedule his appointment for another 2 months away as we were told it would cost is at least $400 down at the appointment for the surgery and also his doctor's office said they have let him in the last few times because she was told to by his doctor because the doctor loves my older two but they will not be able to see him again or schedule and assist with the surgeries unless he has insurance or we have cash in hand. This has caused us to go so broke were on our last $50 and it's been super rough even keeping up on basic bills let alone all the other credit I had to just stop paying to make sure my children and fiance had a roof over them and food for them all...so I began browsing the internet for any help I could get, or any jobs I could even just work out a little to make sure I keep our household at least a quarter way afloat....it's been a rough year for all of us...and I just have nowhere to turn anymore.
