The Lorenzen Family
Our Story
Baby Layken was born on March 12th at 6:58am. We thought she was a healthy baby on the day she was born, but learned this was not the case. She was life flighted from Mobridge, SD to Bismarck, ND to Sanford Children’s Hospital. They had to intubate her for the flight and she is continually intubated to help her breath and to reduce the stress on her so she can heal. We learned she had issues with pneumonia filtrates in her lungs caused by Meconium. This caused a hole to form in both of her lungs. She has a chest tube to release the air out of her chest cavity.
Layken is continually getting better day by day. The staff at the hospital are continually running tests on her to see how much improvement she is making. My husband Blake and I do not know how long Layken is going to have to stay in the NICU. I had complications with the c-section so I had to stay admitted to the hospital longer than expected. I was transferred by ambulance up to Bismarck after Layken was life flighted. I will be released out of Sanford Hospital on March 16th. We will be staying at the Ronald McDonald House until Layken is ready to come home.
We are blessed to be able to not worry about where we will stay while we are up here in Bismarck. We definitely didn’t plan on having complications with delivery and on top of having our baby girls health conditions.
