The Gatz Family
Our Story
Micah was diagonsed with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy when he was 5 years old. Doctors told us the only way to "treat" RCM is a heart transplant. He went a few years with minimal symptoms but started to decline when he was 9 years old. He was placed on the heart trasnplant list when he was 10 years old on the lowest status (2), he was then moved to the next highest level (1B) when he had a PICC line placed with a continuous medication drip to help his heart. In February of 2024, testing showed that Micah's heart function had declined and was in heart failure; he needed to be admitted at Mayo Clinic where he will continue his wait for a heart transplant. Micah is now 12 years old and continues to wait inpatient for a perfect match, over 8 months since he has been home.
