The Escalera Family
Our Story
Hi! My name is Ashley Escalera and my daughter Racine is suffering from Pulmonary Hypertension. Her PH is being caused by the 4 VSDs And 1 ASD.
From the start of Racine's life, she always had quick breathing. Her pediatricians told us it was because she was tiny and working harder as she was only 6lbs 11oz and 19 inches long. On March 9th,2025 we went to the Children's Hospital in Saint Paul because she had a squishy bump on her head. After talking to the admitting nurse, we were admitted because of her breathing. We were transported to Children's Minneapolis and everything began to unfold. Unfortunately there was a set back due to an incident with her feeding tube that led her to be intubated for 5 days. After her heart catheter procedure on April 1st, we received the news that it is not safe to bring her home. Racine needs to grow before we can discuss surgery and see if some of the VSDs close on their own. We are looking at months due to the suggestion that it may be until she's 4-6 years old. So until then we are a hospital family. My daughter is my hero.
