The Khalaf Family
Our Story
Sawyer was airlifted from Tulsa Oklahoma where he was visiting family to U of M Masonic hospital because he was so critical. His ammonia levels were so dangerously high they caused him to go into shock. His only symptom for us that we could see was he was more lethargic than normal. Thankfully he is improving and getting the care he needs but as of now the doctor’s do not know why his ammonia levels rose to the level they were. They are using trial and error to figure out what is triggering them to rise. As of now he is incredibly confusing for the doctors and they have NO case studies that match his symptoms. We have always known how special Sawyer is and how different his body can react to things but we aren’t happy that this has landed him in the hospital for an undetermined length of time. He will be in the hospital for another 2 weeks to a month or however long it takes us to determine how to safely feed him and keep his ammonia levels down. When he is in the hospital his mom loses her income. They rely on this income to pay bills and having something as small as a mortgage payment off their plates would be wonderful.
